The New York Renaissance Faire: A Bygone Era Worth Visiting

| Special Events

The most magical event takes place every August and September in Sterling Forest, New York: the New York Renaissance Faire. A recreation of a 16th-century Elizabethan village, you can spend your entire day watching plays and strolling musicians, cheer on your favorite knight in a joust or try your hand at archery. And don’t forget […]

Our 6-Day New York City Itinerary with a Toddler

| Eat the World, Travel the World

When we packed up to move across the country a couple years ago, we knew there was going to be A LOT of things we were going to miss about Connecticut and New York: our friends, the food, the cheaper travel options, heck even the weather (some of the time). But we were shocked to […]

The “Spend Half Your Paycheck on Dinner” Edition Below you’ll find my recommendations for the best restaurants in NYC. Don’t get me wrong, there are many amazing restaurants in NYC that don’t cost an arm and a leg. For example, I am very partial to the $2 dirty water hot dogs sold outside of Grand […]

New York City: Can’t Miss Things to Do and See

| Travel the World

One of my favorite things to do when I lived in Connecticut was to come up with a list of places in Hawaii for my New England friends to visit. It started happening so often that I even made a word document. Whenever a friend reached out asking for advice on Hawaii, I would just […]

Is American Express’s Platinum Card Worth It for the Centurion Lounge Access?

My toddler and I spent almost 12 hours in Seattle’s Centurion Lounge and lived to tell the tale. And then a week later we did it again. I’m the world’s best procrastinator. Case in point, we had made the decision to visit New York City several months before I got around to looking for flight […]

Spa Castle: a mystical and magical place

Nestled in suburban Queens is the Korean mega-spa, Spa Castle. When I was living on the east coast, Time Out New York was my bible of cannot miss things to do. TONY seemed to love Spa Castle and mentioned them constantly. However, I was still hesitant about a huge bathhouse in Queens with naked (non-coed) sections […]

A Brooklyn Getaway: Revisited

Brooklyn had always been somewhat of a mystical place to me. So close to Manhattan and yet typically viewed as too far away for us to take the trek out there from Connecticut for a day trip. Finally, we decided to go all-in on experiencing this New York City Borough by celebrating our 7-year wedding […]

Cruising – The Good, The Bad, The Inbetween or Lessons Learned From Our Recent Not-So-Spectacular Trip

What went wrong? I love cruising. I think I’ve taken 10 cruises in total. My first cruise was when I was 12 years old to celebrate my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. One of my first big vacations with my boyfriend (now husband) after college was on a cruise. A big part of my honeymoon included […]

Alaska: The Last Frontier… on a Cruise Ship

Last year, my family and I headed back to New York to visit places and friends we had left behind two years earlier when we relocated to Honolulu. We also were excited to enjoy the colder weather that the east coast could provide. Instead, a heatwave left us sweltering in nearly 100-degree weather. We ended up […]

Lobster Rolls and Bicycles and Other Fancy Stuff: A Summer Day on Block Island, RI

| Travel the World

On July 1, 2010 I was sitting at home in Connecticut and wishing I had made plans to travel to someplace new for the fourth of July holiday, when I thought ‘well, why not?’ With that I started planning to visit Block Island, a quaint island off the coast of Rhode Island that was only […]

Happy International Women’s Day! Okay, in full disclosure this maaaay be a Girls Day post that I am 5 days late in posting, but I’m going with it.
Has it really been 1 year? 1 year since our family dusted off our tent and packed our bags to join 30 other families for an awesome camping trip in Kaneohe? When I wasn’t packing, I was spending my free time learning about that crazy new disease called the Coronavirus. It hadn’t quite caused a scare in Hawai’i yet, although we were worried about troubling news of spiking cases on the mainland. At the end of the trip, 1 family had offered to store all the paper goods for the 2021 camping trip and my own husband, appalled by how non-glamperific our own tent-area was in comparison... quickly made a list and purchased all of his “necessary” updates for the next year. Here’s hoping we get to try out our new purchases soon!
When my two favorite takeaway places decide to do a collab together for Valentine’s Day... of course I had to jump onboard the @restaurantsenia @barleatherapron ordering bandwagon.
My newest curbside pick up experience was sooo good! KCC’s Ka’Ikena restaurant continues to bring their A game even during the pandemic. I needed a picture of just the fish because it was so delicious. I know I shouldn’t be surprised because in normal times this place is absolutely amazing. I just remember back to my time in college (in a major far removed from the culinary arts... because I can’t even toast bread without problems) and there isn’t any assignment I ever completed that would come close to knocking it out of the park like these students do! ❤️❤️❤️
I love love love Super Bowl parties! Truth be told I’m not really the hugest football fan (despite cheering for it for 3 years in high school 🤫), but I love the super expensive commercials, beer, and party appetizers. So I figured I wasn’t going to let a little thing like not going to a party spoil my fun this year. So in addition to watching all the commercials on YouTube we also ordered @feast808 Super Bowl party pack of lobster rolls and cheesesteaks and it was heavenly bliss.
We finally got around to trying @chefchaipacifica wiki wiki box and it was awesome. 8 entrees 2 salads and 2 desserts for $120. It was a perfect and delicious solution to a hectic week. Curbside pickup in the Pacifica parking lot and 2.5 minutes in the microwave and you are set for days... with minimal cleanup too. 🤗 I’m so sad to be cooking for myself again now that I’m out of entrees.
