Waimanalo Country Farms’ Drive Thru Sunflower Event

| Hawaii Activities, Special Events

If you told me a month ago that I would spend the beginning of November counting down the days until my reservation for the Waimanalo Country Farms’ Drive Thru Sunflower Event, I would have thought you were crazy. But that was before I experienced their drive-thru pumpkin event. October was a pretty busy month for […]

Visiting Disney’s Aulani during the Covid-19 Pandemic

| All Things Disney, Hawaii Activities

Going on vacation in 2020 means that when you return home the big question everyone wants to know isn’t “how was the weather?” or “what did you see?” Instead, the question I got from everyone was, “how did Aulani handle keeping everyone safe during the Covid-19 pandemic?” Aulani does a great job of laying everything […]

Best Food Options on the North Shore of O’ahu

| Eat the World, Hawaii Activities

On almost any given Labor Day weekend, you can find my family and me on the North Shore. Getting away from Honolulu to relax and recharge at the beginning of the school year has become our tradition. We love the laid back way of life and beautiful white sandy beaches, but mostly we love the […]

Outschool: Where you can learn to draw mermaids, sing like Elsa, rap like Hamilton, and study math and chemistry through a Hogwarts-like potions class

It’s been ninety-four days. Ninety-four days that I’ve worked a full-time job and kept my 6-year-old busy once her school closed to on-campus learning. I decided to write this post because I know this is a very common struggle. Eighty of those days were filled with her school’s distance learning program. If you are a […]

Reading Eggs: The program that taught my kid to read, and saved our mother-daughter relationship in the process

| At Home Activities

Extensive travel itineraries based on a year’s worth of research and planning? Fun! Travel booked with credit card rewards? Easy (or at least I’m getting the hang of it). New places and activities to experience with my family? Pretty much my entire parenting belief system. But the year (or at least 5 months so far) […]

Cliffs of Moher: A Must See for Any Ireland Vacation

| Travel the World

When I started planning this trip, I pictured nights at pubs, beautiful views of majestic green mountains, and mornings of sausage, eggs, grilled tomato and baked beans. I also pictured the Cliffs of Moher. I pictured standing on the edge of the cliff, looking out into the Atlantic Ocean and just taking in Ireland in […]

Dingle: a Destination and a Journey

The road to Dingle Is omitting certain truths the same as lying? You are probably saying yes, but I am hoping to get an exemption in this case. At the very least, Bryan has forgiven me for this omission (I think). Here’s the deal. There are two ways for us to get to Dingle. From […]

Aillwee Cave: A Quirky Getaway in the Heart of the Burren

| Travel the World

A Visit to Aillwee Cave The Aillwee Cave website advertised a “30-minute stroll through beautiful underworld caverns, over bridged chasms, under weird formations and alongside the thunderous waterfall.” It wasn’t quite as grandiose as that advertisement would lead you to believe but the waterfall was pretty cool. The best part about our visit to the […]

The fifth day of our 11th day jaunt through Ireland found us travelling through County Galway and taking time out to see the magnificent Kylemore Abbey, the beautiful walled Kylemore gardens and the breathtaking views of the Connemara. Cause we’re rotten… to the core.
💞 La Vie 💞
A couples weeks ago we made it to the opening night of Orchids at the @halekulanihotel . I wanted to bring Em but was worried about what would happen if we were greeted with a tasting menu only option. While the waiter said their preference was for guests to order off of the tasting menu, they also were providing many of the dishes a la cart as well, which was perfect for Em to slowly eat her way through while the rest of the party had the tasting menu.
Happy national daughter’s day to all the daughters out there, but especially to my partner in crime this summer as we spent our lazy Saturday afternoons trying out various restaurants as ladies who lunch. @ruscellohawaii ended up being my daughter’s favorite spot and she begged us to go back over and over again. Between the views (from their outside dining area), the crayons and activity book menu, and a delicious take on one of her favorites (mac and cheese), it was a clear winner in her book. And any place where I can get good food, great service and a happy child-dining partner is a clear win in my book as well.
There was a media event when @restaurant_av first opened that a bunch of IG accounts I follow attended and posted about. The mouth watering pictures they posted on IG were still in my mind a couple hours later when my husband asked me “where do you want to go to celebrate your birthday?” Excitedly, I threw out the name #avrestaurant . He made the reservations but proceeded on teasing me for the next two weeks about how I, lover of all things meat and cheese, was going to celebrate my birthday at an all-vegan tasting menu restaurant. As we drove to dinner last night, I threw the question back at my husband of where he wanted to eat for his birthday. He named a bunch of steak restaurants as potential options. I jokingly said, “maybe we should hold off deciding until we try AV. You never know… you may pick it for your dinner.” He laughed and gave a jokingly “sure… we’ll see.”
Never forget. ❤️🇺🇸❤️
